Analog television history is now living in England. After over 76 years of accompanying, this television finally succumbed to technological progress. At midnight on Wednesday, the analogue TV signal is switched off in the country, ending in Northern Ireland.
This step is completing a five-year transition to fully digital television UK, at a cost of more than 1 billion pounds sterling. The process begins in the Cumbrian town of Whitehaven in 2007, and was first mooted by the Ministry of Culture (then) Chris Smith in 1999.
Digital UK, the body responsible for coordinating campaigns and information accompanying the transition, says the program is running on time and on budget. The transition was not entirely without a hitch. New transmitter system after a fire, but its function is back to normal in a matter of hours.
The transition process aided by rapid advances in television. Not only from analog to digital, but provided another attraction: flat screen, high definition and 3D which encourages people to buy a new TV.
"We are working on a growing market," said David Scott, Chief Executive of Digital UK. He stated wave analog television will soon be used for fourth generation mobile services or 4G
