There Any Salt Conditions in Indonesia

Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries estimates that the total stock of salt intake at the end of the year is about 2.1 to 2.2 million tonnes. Director-General of the Marine, Coastal and Small Islands (KP3K) Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF), Sudirman Saad, said the amount of production has accounted for farmers and the rest imported 100 thousand tons last year.
"Production of salt farmers will be completed by the end of November," said Sudirman in a discussion with reporters in Jakarta, Friday, October 19, 2012.
According to Sudirman, Indonesia, marking its total production has reached self-sufficiency in salt consumption. Therefore, the need for a national salt consumption is only 1.4 million tons per year, which means that this year's surplus of 700 thousand tons.
Surplus salt consumption will be used as a backup early next year when the farmers do not produce. "So next year there is no more salt consumption is imported," he said.
Despite the surplus production of salt consumption, he said, the price of salt at the farmers declined due to oversupply. In addition, the government also lamented the low quality salt. Of the total production, only 30 percent were in the KW1 quality. The rest is still KW2, even lower.
Coastal Community Development Director and Business Development Directorate KP3K CTF Ansori Zawawi added to the front of the government is attempting to try the salt production industry. Because, as long as it needs industrial salt as much as 1.8 million tons of all still have to be met from imports.
"There needs to be development of technologies to cultivate the quality of the salt into the salt industry. Next year we will try to develop in some places, such as in Cirebon that currently there are salt ponds technology development," he said on the same occasion.
